About this deal

Siren’s top accolades include being named the ‘Best Brewer in England’ by Ratebeer users in 2015, plus a Supreme Champion Beer of Britain award by Campaign For Real Ale in 2018. So broadly, Lumina draws inspiration from the celestial world. As the stars have fascinated, inspired and guided us throughout the ages, we designed this beer to be the shining light of our flagship range that you can always look towards. We want this beer to be the shining light of our range, but also the shining light that represents a reliable and yet exciting beer on the bar or on the shelf - quite literally in this case, with its glowing centre point. Tropical Space Juice Juicy tropical fruit notes, and hoppy aromas of mango and pineapple guide you towards explosive flavour, flashes of delicate citrus highlights and refreshing balanced bitterness. Siren's epiphany of a session beer drinks with a pillowy soft mouthfeel and pours with a beautiful light haze. On June 12th, 2020, we wrote about The Value of Flagship Beers. It was the first public step with a nod towards a change to the flagship range. In it, we spoke of how the industry is geared towards new, exciting beers and an ever-changing lineup of possibilities. We have no issue with this. That desire for difference inspires our creativity and our drive and ultimately lead to us releasing over 88 unique beers in 2020. We think that’s probably more than anyone’s ever done, feel free to correct us on that!

Later in 2020, and with recipe, name, design and everything else set, we were heading towards our launch date of June 19th. releasing an experimental beer every week. A drinks industry trailblazer, Siren is a leader in barrel ageing and the interplay between wood and beer. Both flaked and malted oats. Siren decided to use a combination of oats to add depth and volume to the body to ensure a smooth and soft sensation when drinking. The oats make up approximately 15% of the grist The combination of classic and new waveHops give JIMBO aromas of mixed berries, crisp apple, yet all balanced with a well-rounded nutty bitter finish.

Amber Ale with a complex grain bill bringing bready malt flavour with hints of dark caramel, honey and rye spice, combined with a West Coast US hop character, as Simcoe and Amarillo hops provide bright stone fruit and orange citrus notes.

Remote Areas - Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands & Islands, Isle of Wight, Isle of Man and The Scilly Isles

India Pale Ale (or IPA) is one of the most popular ales – and indeed beers – around. Pale ale originally meant an ale that had been brewed from pale malt and the original IPAs were heavily hopped for transport to colonial India. IPAs now have a strong association with Canada and the United States, where many breweries produce their own versions. Session IPA refers to the lower alcohol version (mostly below 5% ABV) of US-style IPA, which is usually fruity, zesty and bitter. Bitter Across all formats, Lumina hasbeen served in1014 individual accounts, with Fullers Pub Co being the biggest adopter, closely followed by Frontier Pub Co. Our top independent Lumina retailer by volune is the amazing Trekkers bar in Chesham. And so in early 2020 we launched a beer called Refractions, initially also only on keg and cask, but later in cans as well. This beer was to become our new flagship beer, but under the guise of this name we could experiment with hop lineups and recipes.

Ode to the Golden State a 4.8% Californian Common. Copper coloured body from a complex malt blend. Lashings of toffee and caramel sweetness whilst the lager yeast makes it easy drinking. Lumina is an epiphany moment for Siren, a coming together of experience, experimentation and evolution to create our most accessible session beer ever, with poise and adventure of universal appeal. It’s that feeling of epiphany that first sparked the ‘energy’ of this design. A central burning energy source emanates movement across the canvas, with themes of luminosity and navigation weaving in and out of the sky. Lumina is a beer influenced by modern tastes as much as it aims to inspire them. Those same hops were joined by Chinook in the whirlpool, so in drinking there’s a welcome edge of pine and grapefruit flavour to the overall juicy profile. The mouthfeel is soft with layers of oats (making up around 15% of the grist) helping this, along with some nice body. There’s just enough perceived bitterness there to freshen up the palate and get you ready for the next sip. We were also supported by some amazing indie bottle shops and online stores, and Lumina is still available today in all of them. Thanks to everyone involved - we couldn’t have done it without you! We’re massive fans of The White Hag, and they were top of the list to work with here as they so kindly invited us to be a part of Boxstravaganza previously, not to mention Hagstravaganza being one of our favourite festivals. This brown ale is inspired by a certain biscuit that takes its name from BIScuit and COFFee - which is exactly what you can expect when drinking it. There’s nuttiness, spices, delicate nuance of Amburana wood, a touch of coffee and plenty of rich, dark caramelisation. Above all though, it’s highly drinkable and very moreish. While many beers are judged – rightly or wrongly – in relation to their hoppiness, Lumina’s excellence lies in its natural drinkability. It’s that almost mystical quality few beers possess, which makes it impossible not to grab another can from the fridge, followed by another. And then another. Just try and limit yourself to one can, I dare you. Easy drinking smooth golden ale with sweet citrus nose. Palate is of grapefruit, biscuit and tropical fruit fading in the finish with initial earthy and spicy hops becoming bitter and slightly dry. This pale showcases new and different hops while maintaining a consistent pale malt base, allowing the different flavours and aromas to shine through. excludes Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands & Islands, and the Isles of Wight, Man and Scilly - please see below)

Brewed to raise funds and awareness for the homeless charity Only A Pavement Away. Made with the finest English Maris Otter Pale ale malt which has a distinctive copper pale colour, and a rich malty base to showcase the finest American hops. We then utilise both flaked and malted oats. We decided to use a combination of oats to add depth and volume to the body to ensure a smooth and soft sensation when drinking. The oats make up approximately 15% pf the grist For that reason, Lumina has been a long time in the making. We’ve been brewing a pale ale series called Suspended in... for some time, working on hundreds of different combinations of malts and hops, taking notes on how they play together. Earlier this year, Lumina then took a life of its own under the guise of Refractions. Even then, tweaks were being made to each recipe to really hone what this beer is about.

As previously hinted, we’re celebrating Lumina with some very special bundles on the online store. In fact, one of them is so special there are only 5 available! Chief lover of the Simcoe hop, our former Head Brewer, Kyle, played a huge part in our professionalisation during his 5 years with Siren. Creative Projects and ideas were always at the forefront, including a fabulous beer brewed for the Van Gogh exhibition for the Tate, along with projects like Project Barista. Kyle and his wife Kacie are now running their own brand, Kings & Daughters, which should soon have its own thriving brewpub. Crisp Pale Ale is a style Kyle has been developing. It’s clean, snappy and makes for classy drinking. We’ve also trialled Aromozyme here, an enzyme that is designed to promote biotransformation (this might be a whole other blog to itself…) - so we’re looking for as much pleasurable aroma and flavour as we can possibly get from the hop additions. Thanks to Kacie for the beautiful illustration.
